Barack Obama was nominated because of his leadership qualities that he exemplifies. He does very well in dealing with controversial subjects which is not an easy thing to do. Everything he does he strongly believes in and that makes him really stand out. For example his campaign slogan was “change we can believe in” his belief in change brings out his great qualities of being an exceptional leader. Obama accomplished many great things for the American nation throughout his presidency. One of the major controversial things was legalizing same sex marriages for all Americans. He was trying to prove that marrying for love should be the most important thing. Another major accomplishment was passing the health care reform. The five presidents before failed to create a universal healthcare but Obama saved the day! Obama had other major accomplishments that had a positive impact in the US. He is always willing to make hard decisions and is a very strong leader. Obama is the kind of guy to get things done! These are some of the reasons as to why he should win the P.O.T.Y award.

Barack Hussein Obama was born on August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is a man with a very vast education extending from Occidental College, to Columbia University and Harvard University, which proves that he had to have determination in order to complete the requirements for those levels of universities. Barack Obama is married to his wife of 25 years they have two daughters so it is understandable that he cares for education seeing as it was a priority for him during his first election campaign. 

Obama had a seat in the Illinois State Senate where he worked to expand health care services as well as early education programs for the poor. He truly cares for the minorities which in turn cause the public to love him, knowing that he sees the bigger picture of certain realities. 

He made headlines when he had announced in February of 2007 that he was going to be running for president for the next election. On November 4th, 2008 Barack Obama defeated Republican nominee John McCain to be the 44th President of the United States of America. 

The minute Barack Obama took office he inherited the global economic recession. Obama campaigned for a financial reform and reinventing education and health care. His administration took action on multiple fronts. Barack Obama reached to improve the relations with foreign relationships. Some being Europe, China and Russia and in 2010 he withdrew the troops in Iraq. In May of 2011 he gave the green-light in order for operation in Pakistan that led up to the death of Osama Bin Laden by a team of Navy Seals.Iraq. . 

In 2012 Barack Obama announced he was going to be running for re-election guaranteeing the advancement of the country, that he was going to finish what he had begun.On November 6,2012 , he received nearly 5 million more votes than Mitt Romney, as well as capturing nearly 60 percent of the electoral college. He led us through the Boston attacks in 2013 assuring Americans that matters were being taken over the situation. Obama called for universal background checks when people wanted to buy a gun. However it was blocked and he called that a shame. 

However in 2013 he found himself apologizing for health care issues. Obama pledged to find a solution to the situation. Although it dropped his approval ratings he tried to find a way to help those who had fallen because of him. In his State of the Union address in 2015 he announced that the United States was out of recession. Obama worked so much to insure that international affairs were attended in order to better improve the relations which in turn avoid conflict. 

During the summer of 2015 Obama had a huge supreme court win for him and the administration. The supreme court upheld part of the president’s affordable care act regarding health care subsidies. Without the tax credits buying medical insurance might have cost too much for millions of Americans. Then in June 26 of 2015 the Supreme Court also legalized gay marriage. Making a huge win for the Obama administration. He was the first President to vocalize his support for pro gay marriage. He affirmed that all Americans are entitled to equal protection under the law. That they should all be treated equally regardless who they love.Obama cared for Americans , he thought about all not just about the 1% but it expanded more than that. For which is why he should win Person of the Year for his love for the nation and how he wanted it to thrive.
